Get to know me!
Hi! I am Melanie – the owner of Two Things Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of Ohio, and a Licensed Professional Counselor/Licensed Mental Health Professional (LPC/MHSP) in the state of Tennessee.
I am a proud graduate of Ohio University (go Bobcats!) where I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Integrated Healthcare Studies. I spent three years in nursing school before switching my major and I have a lot of random but useful medical knowledge that helps me in my work with therapy. Disclaimer: I am not a licensed nurse, but it’s cool to have some deeper understanding of how (and why) our bodies and minds work the way they do. I followed up my undergraduate degree by attending Wright State University where I earned a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
I complete continuing education (CE) courses that are required to maintain my license for both Ohio and Tennessee on an annual or biennial basis. I also enjoy learning more about various populations and ways I can better support my clients through CE classes (even if that means going over the required hours).
Ohio License #: E.2403998
Tennessee License #: 7204
Since 2020, I have been working with children, adolescents, and adults with mental health counseling in a variety of settings– community mental health, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, hospitals, and outpatient programs. I enjoy working with individuals seeking support with anxiety, eating disorders, OCD, phobias, relationship challenges, mood disorders, and trauma.
I’m a human, too! Personally, I’ve had my own experiences with anxiety and coping with the unexpected experiences that life throws my way. I find that having my own experiences allows me to show up better for my clients with real empathy and a genuine understanding of how overwhelming life can feel sometimes.
Outside of work, I tend to spend most of my time playing with my kids (both dog and human), spending time with family, or using some form of self-care (gotta practice what you preach!). I love expressive arts of any kind – painting, music, poetry, doodling, writing, knitting, reading. You can always catch me with a full cart at a craft store. I also grew up as an athlete playing various sports, and exercise continues to be a source of wellness, achievement, community, and challenge for me. Along with sports, my competitive nature shows up in my passion for board games. Sometimes that even finds a place in my therapy office!
